Quite possibly the most underrated aspect of the shooting sports, a proper gun fit can enhance the shooters ability as well as their scores.

Unfortunately, an improper gun fit will not only inhibit an athlete's scores, but will also promote incorrect form.  The shooter will "adapt" to the gun, and therefore, not allow a proper technique. The shooter will begin to develop bad habits and incorrect reactions to compensate for the improper fit of the gun.

For years, people in the golf industry purchased "off the rack" clubs and just adapted.  Today, the golf industry has made a huge leap using technology to put the golfer in clubs designed specifically for his or her swing ensuring the best results.

Shooting is no different.  As explained in the overview, having the resources to be instructed on gun handling technique and form for your sport is the first step.  The next step is to be fit into a gun that suits YOUR style.  One of the most common mistakes is the purchasing of a gun before the shooter has a proper form, then realizing the gun is not suited for your style.

Very few people really know how to properly fit a gun to a shooter.  In most cases, if your eye is down the barrel and your head is close to straight, the gun will be sold to you as a "fit" gun.

In this case, however, Josh knows his client and their style and cannot only fit the gun to the shooter now, but make the correct calculations to ensure that the gun will still fit in a year as they develop.  As an athlete progresses with development and technique, they will get comfortable with a gun.  At this point, the shooter will sometimes require a little more length, or the ability to move the comb slightly to fit the changing form.  Josh is able to recognize and make these changes because of the correct foundation already laid with proper fit and technique he instructed.

Knowing the client before purchasing a gun, Josh can observe the physical abilities of the shooter which will determine such things as gun weight, balance, rib heights, stock heights and other important dimensions normally not taken into consideration.
